Our process

There are three phases in construction. Preconstruction, construction and post construction. By spending time in the preconstruction phase, you can remove most misunderstandings, keep on budget and on time. Here's how it's done:

The five core documents of all projects

The Five Core Documents of Preconstruction

Every construction project requires planning and preparation to build correctly. To get started, we've learned these basic documents are required and ensure your vision is kept in mind throughout the build.

  • Vision Board is our visual reference and ending goal that we keep in mind throughout the project.

  • Project scope are the roles we are going to play to help you create your vision.

  • Specifications and selections are the materials and processes that we'll use to build that vision.

  • Plans and permits are the technical references used to identify exact placement of your materials.

  • Construction Contract is the agreement of how and when we will work together to ensure your vision is precisely executed.

Our commitments to you

All work starts with a set of commitments

As we say often, we've been building since the Egyptians and nothing is new. However construction requires that you learn from your mistakes and build on every success. As second generation carpenters we've learned a thing or two about how to build well. Specifically there needs to be a set of commitments that we hold to:

  • You will get excellent craftsmanship and your home will stand the test of time because we seek what is "right" in building materials, experience and science.

  • We will use clear and consistent communication with you, which means we keep to a schedule of weekly meetings, daily job logs and both video and on-site meetings. This also includes a personalized website that keeps all pictures, notes and communication in one place.

  • We will treat your home as our own and treat your family as our own. We will keep your home site clean, orderly and safe. Through the construction process we will refrain from using profanity or aggressive language and we will work together respectfully.

  • We constantly seek knowledge, and use best practices to help make the building community better. As leaders for construction best practices in the Pacific Northwest, we will ensure all people on your work site follow best practices in their fields.

Our History

Caber Carter Inc. is a design/build/remodel firm, meaning we handle the project from conception to completion. Since we control the materials and handle the entire project, we're proud to offer a three year warranty on our work.

Caber Carter was started by two carpenters (Jon and Clint) who's fathers were also carpenters and worked together in 1980 (hence the 1980 in our logo). After working as carpenters for a development in Portland, the two cofounders started Caber Carter in 2017.

The name Caber Carter is actually a joke. Each founder got to name half of the company. Clint chose "Caber" which is a pole used in the Scottish Highland Games for an event called the "caber toss". Jon chose "Carter" which is a family name meaning "to cart around and pick things up". Put together Caber Carter means one of the owners would throw things around and the other has to cart around and pick it up.

Our CCB number is 216857, and you can find our work in the portfolio section above, as well as Google and HomeAdvisor.

We are proud of our relationships and work which is probably why we were suggested to you. Our reputation is our business and our future, so we are delighted to be rated "Elite" by Home Advisor (the nation's largest contractor resource) for "Craftsmanship and Service", as well as many five star ratings at both Home Advisor and Google.

In fact we love building so much that we have a podcast about building in the northwest. (rss.com/podcasts/betterbuilt) You can also find us on Spotify, Google and Apple podcasts.

From my family to yours, I eagerly look forward to meeting you and to make a customer for life.
